The Brookvilles Market Reports

The Brookvilles as the towns are more commonly referred to actually encompass three separate villages. Nestled on the famed Gold Coast of the North Shore of Nassau County, Brookville, Old Brookville and the tony enclave of Upper Brookville are located within the town of Oyster Bay and share much in history and culture. None occupying more than 4.5 square miles in total yet an abundance of social, cultural and educational centers intertwined to create splendid lifestyles and family-oriented living.

In the years marking the Roaring 20s, many grand manors were home to captains of industry and business titans where lavish parties were thrown to honor the assortment of royalty, celebrity and corporate kings. Over 500 sprawling estates once dotted this verdant countryside but time and nature changed more than the landscape. Today, many of these magnificent homes have either fallen to ruin, sold off into smaller parcels or have become parks, hotels and other tourist venues.

     Brookville

Originally Brookville began as just a narrow tract of land along Cedar Swamp Road, but the adjoining Wheatley Hills parcel was annexed in the 1950’s and formed what is now known as the Village of Brookville. Bordered by Muttontown, Jericho, Old Westbury, Glen Head, Old Brookville and Upper Brookville, the village is a robust 4.0 square miles comprised of sprawling estates and bustling commerce.

This remarkable village, just 40 minutes from New York City, has seen its share of growth over the years. A sea change in demographics from farmers and woodlands to the renown of its current owners fill these extravagant mansions. Notable residents have included Alfred I. DuPont, Angie Dickenson, Burt Bacharach, Marc Anthony, as well as Vanderbilts, Huttons and The Guests.

Brookville is home to the Jericho and Locust Valley Schools, the DeSeversky Conference Center of the New York Institute of Technology as well as LIU CW Post Campus and the acclaimed Tiles Center for the Performing Arts.

     Upper Brookville

Northernmost of the three ‘Brookvilles’, this village is perhaps one of the most desirable areas in the country. Encompassing just 4.3 square miles, Upper Brookville is surrounded by large wooded parcels that frame equally expansive private estates. As the story goes, Hope Goddard Iselin, American Heiress and daughter of Colonel William Goddard, scion of mercantile and manufacturing activities in the 1900s, gave Upper Brookville its tony name exclaiming “I refuse to live in lower anything. If you must call it something, and I suppose you must, call it Upper Brookville.” And the name stuck.

Today, Upper Brookville still maintains the air of opulence with an array of well-manicured estates, desirable shopping and dining choices and numerous exclusive golf, country clubs and equestrian centers. Home to many prominent families, Upper Brookville claimed such distinguished residents as Hope Goddard Iselin, Pia Zadora, and Julius ‘Dr. J.” Erving. Only a 40 minute commute into New York City, Upper Brookville is convenient to major roadways and rail.

There are four school districts serving the Upper Brookville youth. They are Jericho, Locust Valley, North Shore and Oyster Bay-East Norwich.
